Subject: lost Camera

Hey Matt,
I got my camera back! Alison had found it at the library she worked at and posted it on your website. I lost it over 4th of July weekend of 2008 and got it back in my hands at the beginning of the 2009 year. I'm so grateful and it means so much to me to have it returned to me. I gave Alison a VISA gift card to thank her for being so honest and returning my camera to me. Thank you too, for having such a wonderful website. I hope there are many other successful stories like my own!

"I found a USB drive with photos on it in front of my house. Most of the photos look like the ones I've attached."

"This camera was found in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. According to the photos, it was a US soldier's camera and the photos were taken at the Ali Al Salem airbase, also located in Kuwait. The camera was found in Dec 2008, but was probably sitting in the vehicle for several months. Soldiers come from and go to Iraq via Ali Al Salem, so who knows where the owner of this camera is now."

Curious about the stories behind the lost pictures, what goes on behind the scenes, and the future of the blog?

"I found a camera in Doubtful Sound, New Zealand, Feb. 6, 2009. The camera was ruined but I managed to get the 3 memory cards with it to work. The camera appears to belong to a German couple that went on a charter boat the "Tutoko." Hopefully someone will recognize the people in the pictures."

"I found a camera mid-January 2009, in Kananaskis, west of Calgary, Alberta. It contains hundreds of photos, some of a European trip and most of activities in and around Calgary.

If the owners contact me, I’ll arrange to meet them and return it personally. I would feel exceptionally bad if it didn’t get returned to them personally.

They will need to provide details as to what type of camera, certain activities recorded on the camera, and places that are on the camera."

"Hi there. Found this memory card on 1/17/09 in the Ravenna neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, USA.

Some pictures are attached. I also posted it to the Seattle Livejournal community and Craigslist. There are a lot of beautiful pictures, so while a new back-up card for my camera would be nice. It'd be nicer if the owners could get these back."

"Hi, I've found a camera and would like to return it to whom it belongs. I found it at the Saint-Bruno ski center in South Shore of Montreal with 2 memory cards. I guess the photos are from the owner and his girlfriend."

I have much respect for your website, although I do not agree with it.

You see, while people might feel like heroes or get excited when their long lost photos are returned/found, I pride myself on being a "found photographer."

Maybe I'm selfish, but I've learned so much from the photos I've discovered on the street. My collections is growing, and so am I.

"It was a Sony Cybershot camera which was found in a San Antonio, Texas, bar in 2005. There was a piece of paper in the camera case that was a stub from a parking garage and the name was Leo. Sorry there's not too much to go by but I figured I'd take a shot to get this camera back to them."

"The SanDisk memory card was found in Berlin, Jan. 18, 2009 at the Oasis concert.

  • There are about 600 photos on the card
  • Many photos were taken between 2007 and 2008.
  • I think the memory card belongs to the girl with brown hair and sunglasses.
  • The photos on the card show several houses in Berlin, pictures from summer vacations at the Baltic Sea I think, winter holiday pictures and photos of people skiing, pictures taken in New York and lots of photos from parties, family meetings, and lots of videos from her New York trip too!"

"I'm so lucky I knew about your blog and take part in this. Like a little adventure actually."
